Forest Felines has three different foster programs. Because we do not know the history or upbringing of the cats in our program, cats will vary in behavior. It is up to our fosters to open their hearts and homes to help us find the right home for each cat that needs our help.
Because cats, just like people, need time to figure out who they are (especially after living without a sense of safety and security) some cats may enter into one program and with time, they may be better fitted for a different program. Since it is difficult to determine each cat’s socialization during a stressful event such as trapping, it’s our job as fosters to observe cats to find what program fits them best.
Community Cat Caregiver Fosters (CCCF) are people who care for colony cats on their property. To be eligible to be a CCCF Foster with Forest Felines, all Community Cat Caregiver Fosters must follow Forest Felines Policies and Procedures. This program is intended to be utilized, so colony cats do not have to be transferred out of the colony until they are adopted as a Business Cat. Adopters may not be able to choose which cats they adopt from this program due who is trapped in the colony by the caregiver. This program is utilized by adopters that want a Business Cat and will be accepting of any cat that is trapped by a CCCF. The goal of this program is to help adopters find working cats and lessen the caregiver's colony counts to help with colony maintenance. All cats in the program will be Spay/Neutered and ear tipped.
Business Cat Fosters must have adequate confined space in a barn, business setting, insulated shed, garage or other space to provide shelter to Business Cats. The Goal of this program is to allow Business Cats to have a safe place to stay while they wait for their forever business partner.
Outside time for cats in this program will vary with stipulations on a cat by cat- foster by foster basis.
We require Fosters to keep Forest Felines updated regularly to make sure the cat is in the correct program. Some cats take more time to really come out of their shell to figure out who they are as cats.
Through our Couch Cat program, we find homes for the cats that are trapped and are better suited as companion animals. Care depends on which program is best suited for each individual cat. We might not know what kind of adoption program that specific cat requires until they have been in our care for a time.
Cats in our Couch Cat program are to be indoor only cats until they are adopted.
