Couch Cat Adoption Program
Couch Cats are cats that have been trapped and after careful consideration, are deemed fit to work and play. All couch cats have proven to successfuly use a litter box. We believe these cats are best suited for companion animals and business partners. Couch Cats that are trapped have most likely been "dumped" or lost and are added to our Shelter Partner list so they can have more opportunities in an in-home environment. Cats in this program have been trapped and found living outside for an unknown amount of time and would be best suited as either an indoor cat or a cat that is allowed to venture outdoors.
Couch Cats are interested in part time work as pest control officers, and in their free time, they enjoy snuggling up on the couch and binge watching some drama shows.
After adopting your Couch Cat, we ask that you confine your new feline friend to a small space such as a bathroom or bedroom for one week before you allow them to roam inside your home.
If you are allowing your new Couch Cat outdoor time:
We require you to keep your new kitty indoors for at least 4 months before allowing them outside.
The first dozen times your cat is outside, we ask that you supervised them starting with a few minutes and gradually increase the supervised adventures before letting them roam unsupervised.
No other animals should be interfering with your cat during their first outings.
Give them safe spaces to go or hide while they are outside. Something as simple as leaving your garage door open or putting a slab of plywood against your home.
Never run after your new cat that is outdoors. If you cannot get your cat back inside, open a can of their favorite cat food, shake their food bowl, and let them come back to you.
Never let your cat be outside next to a busy street.
If your cat disappears during outside time, leave their cat litter box outside to let them know where home is.
If your cat will not come back in the house, please use a humane trap to capture them.
